Virtual School Update.

Hello, hello!! Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day full of love and laughter!!

Today I'm sharing a virtual school update!! For those of you who don't know, I do virtual school. This year, my school gave us the options of in-person, virtual, or blended (a mix of both). I choose virtual as well as my siblings. Since then, my siblings have moved on to their own homeschool curriculum and I'm still doing virtual school. I just wanted to give a little bit of an update on everything considering that we have been virtual for almost a year!! So crazy that a year ago I walked out of the school building not knowing that I wouldn't walk in for over a year. Weird times that we're living in.

If you want to catch up, you can find my first virtual update here!!

Let's start with Huddy, shall we?

Let's backtrack. For the first nine weeks, Hudson had an amazing teacher. She was absolutely great. He would go into the school building twice a week to meet with her, and then zoom with her the other three days. She provided him with loads of resources, worksheets, everything you could possibly need. I'm telling you, I wish I had Huddy's teacher!! Then the second nine weeks roll around and we find out that she's switching to in-person teaching :( Then the decision comes where we decide if we should send Hudson back to school, keep doing virtual, or switch him to a homeschool curriculum. Most of Hudson's friends are in-person, so of course, we didn't want him to miss out, but he LOVES being at home. So, we decided to switch him to the homeschool curriculum.

He LOVES it.

He gets most of his work done before lunch, and he is so ahead for his grade. Hudson is in the 2nd grade, and he is reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry...a 5th-grade level book.

My mom loves being in control of what he's learning, and Huddy loves being her student. And because he's "homeschooled" my mom lets him breach out a bit and let's him learn some more about the things that he's interested in, which is another thing that he loves. Right now, they've been learning a lot about the Holocaust. He also does journaling prompts every day. Another thing is that, for the most part, it's all on his IPad. Besides the extra stuff my mom does with him, or if he needs help on something, he's pretty much entirely self-sufficient which is so nice considering that my mom is also working from home and homeschooling Anna.

So overall, homeschool for Huddy has been awesome...No complaints from him ;)

So now let's talk about Anna!! Anna was actually the first one to switch to homeschool. She switched about halfway through October and has been doing it ever since.

Anna switched because my mom wanted to work with her a little more, and try to get her ahead like Hudson!!

There are times that she loves it and times that she doesn't. She loves that all of her work is laid out for her, but doesn't love my mom as a teacher. We're all a bit stubborn in this family, so we all clash a little bit when it comes to schoolwork...Math especially. But, she does love that my mom is controlling what she's learning.

Anna does it all on her Chromebook, so for the most part, she's self-sufficient. Besides the little things that she needs guidance on, she does it all by herself through the power of technology.

So yeah! It's as simple as that. She's really enjoying it.

Now for the part, you've ALL been waiting for...me. Just kidding!!

So, I have continued with virtual school throughout this whole year. I have some mixed feelings about it.

Let's start with the things that I love. 1) I'm home all day long. Yes, it does get boring at times, but I love being here with my family. 2) I can make my own schedule. 3) I have more time on my hands for things such as blogging. 4) I have more time to get ahead on my schoolwork.

Now for the cons. 1) Zooms. I HATE them. 2) Not getting in-person help/instruction from my teachers...It's tough. 3) Less social experiences.

So there's a pretty even mix. In the future I'll do a post about the "pros and cons of virtual learning," so I don't want to waste your time rambling about that here.

As for the actual schoolwork, it's been tough juggling it all, especially with blogging. The good thing is that I've successfully completed all of my tests in my English, science, and world history classes, so hopefully things be will slightly easier going forward. The hardest part, for me, is just juggling blogging, school, and social friendships.

So overall, I do really like virtual school and being at home, but it can be challenging at times.

So that wraps up this post!! Thank you so much for reading, and I will see you here tomorrow!!

I'm linking up with Heather for Hello Monday!!

  2. I work at a high school and I know lots of students that do remote learning. I wish I had this option when I was in school. To be able to stay in your pj's all day? You can't beat that.

Also - your wedges.. I have the same pair! I have black and brown. Love them so much and they're comfy :)

  5. Thanks for sharing this, it is good to hear how it's going from your perspective. I am not a homeschooling mom so I have kept my kids on their school programs, which up to now has been a mix of in person and virtual. They have done pretty well with it I think. Now, my boys are going to be in person more often, at least with our numbers down here again, which is a good thing!

  8. I feel you on all of this. My youngest is a high school freshman and it's been hard to be away. He is doing a hybrid and he loves being in school. I'm hoping he gets back to full time so he can finally meet other students.

    1. Thank you!! It was an adjustment, and I don't think we've necessarily found our groove yet, but it works!

  11. We love homeschooling since we can pick and choose what to learn about too! With my middle son being hybrid learning this year it's been an adjustment for us all (and I really have to bite my tongue sometimes about his assignments or how a class is being handled) but for the most part all three of my boys are completely content with what they are doing too.

    1. Yes! It can be difficult and that was one of the reasons why my mom switched Anna and Huddy over to homeschool.
